Novanglus by John Adams
This collection of political essays, by John Adams, was written in 1774 and 1775 regarding the principal points of controversy between Great Britain and her colonies. Adams used this breadth of knowledge about British history and law to dissect that country’s governmental affairs.
Specifically, Adams attacked the views of Daniel Leonard, who felt that the British Parliament should have absolute control over the colonies. The crowning jewel of this political work is Adams’ brilliant refutation of British imperial policy.
