The Ethics of Abrahamic Monotheism
Salon Discussion | Jonathan Jacobs | June 5, 2024
On June 5th, we held our ninth Salon Discussion of the past year, titled “The Ethics of Abrahamic Monotheism: How Medieval Thought Illuminates Antiquity and the Present.” Our discussion was led by the distinguished Jonathan Jacobs, a Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Institute of Criminal Justice Ethics, who shared his extensive knowledge on ethics and medieval philosophy. We explored important texts such as Aristotle’s “Nicomachean Ethics”, Alfarabi’s “The Attainment of Happiness”, Maimonides’ “Laws Concerning Character Traits”, and Aquinas’ “Treatise on Law”, exploring their ideas on virtue, law, and morality. This along with first edition religious texts of the King James Bible, Quran, as well as the Hebrew Bible. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the lively and insightful discussion. Your presence made the evening truly memorable. Stay tuned for our next Salon Discussion, “The History of a More Perfect Union,” which will be held at the White River Yacht Club in Indianapolis, Indiana. We look forward to seeing you there!
